It is my 2nd night living in Asheville, NC and walked into a unique bar downtown on Eagle street. The decor was full island paintings and conscious sayings. One saying on a wooden plaque, said something like ...
2000 BC: Here, eat this root.
1000 AD: That root is heathen! Here, say this prayer.
1865 AD: That prayer is superstition! Here, drink this potion.
1935 AD: That potion is snake oil! Here, swallow this pill.
1975 AD: That pill is ineffective! Here, take this antibiotic.
2000 AD: That antibiotic is poison! Here, eat this root.
The bar honored what was voted "the Happiest country in the World," called Vanuata (Vanuatu), an island in the South Pacific. It was where the majestic herb called Kava came from that is known to have great calming effect on the body and even produce states of euphoria. Since it was an open mic and I played a bit, I got a free shot of Kava. It was very bitter and numbing, but interesting nonetheless. This bar only sold herbal teas and no alcohol. Another amazing thing about the open mic was the amount of diversity of participants; there was comedians, songwriters, musicians, a fire trickster, a theatrical performance, poets and spoken wordists. (I know that is not a word).
